2024 AEGIS SUMMER CAMP:

Recycled Recreation: Crafting Games from Everyday Trash

July 15-July 25, 2024

​“Recycled Recreation: Crafting Games from Everyday Trash” is a two-week summer day program held from July 15-18 and July 22-25 from 8:30-3:30.  The camp was developed for students entering seventh, eighth and ninth grades in the 2024-2025 school year who are interested in science, engineering, art, and innovation.  

 Students will explore how to reuse recyclable materials such as cardboard, plastic and electronics to create various games. They will engage with the engineering design cycle to produce playable games to demonstrate various physics concepts. Parents and family members can come experience the finished games on the last day of camp.

 The ​“Recycled Recreation: Crafting Games from Everyday Trash” summer camp will be held at the Arkansas River Education Service Cooperative in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

Eligibility

  • Nominees must be willing to commit to the entire program

  • Students entering 7th, 8th and 9th grade during the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year are eligible to apply.

  • ​Applicants must demonstrate:

    • Creativity and critical thinking in math, science and/or technology.

    • A high degree of self-motivation

    • The ability to participate effectively in individual and small team environments

    • The maturity to handle setbacks; this is a real-world experience and it will get messy

  • All qualified students will be considered for selection regardless of race, gender, socioeconomic status, cultural, or language differences.  

Application Process

(Applications open in February 2024)

The following forms and documents must be submitted by Monday, June 3rd:​

  1. Student Application to be completed and submitted online by the student or family member. 

  2. Letter of Recommendation from a teacher or community member (not a parent or guardian) who has experience in a working or learning environment with the applicant.  The recommendation should be provided digitally to the applicant.  Applicants will submit the Letter of Recommendation as a PDF document by uploading it within the Student Application.

  • February, 2024 - Online Application Process Opens

  • June 3, 2024 - Applications and Forms Due

  • June 10, 20234 - Selection Results Emailed to Students/Parents

  • June 24, 2024 - Accepted Students Registration Materials Due 

  • July 15, 20234- Opening Day of Recycled Recreation: Crafting Games from Everyday Trash

  • July 25, 2024 - Last Day of Recycled Recreation: Crafting Games from Everyday Trash
